Wednesday saw us get up and at 'em reasonably early, heading off to the underground by 9 am. The snag here was that our train tickets were off peak tickets which meant that we couldn't use them until 9:30. So, we toddled off to the main underground station at Kings Cross to check out platform 9 3/4.
Once that was out of systems we headed down to Tower Bridge and did a tour of the Tower of London. The Beefeater who lead the tour was a funny guy, making lots of jokes about Americans and the French. For those who are unaware, the tower used to function as both a palace and a prison during the time of the Henry VIII. It is also where the two York princes were held during the reign of Richard III. Rumour has it he had them murdered as they were a threat to his throne. To this day there is no concrete evidence to indicate what actually happened to them.
We followed the tour up with a lunch of fish and chips from "Ted's Fish & Chips" which delighted dad. Our London Passes included a Red River Rover ticket which gave us hop on/hop off access to a Thames River Cruise. It was good timing as my feet were really sore and I wanted to sit down and do nothing for a while.
A visit to Westminster Abbey was next on the cards. Unfortunately there were quite long lines and our London Passes didn't give us fast track access so we decided to give it a miss, moseying up to Covent Garden via Big Ben to have a peek there instead.
If you hadn't already guessed, this is a pic of Big Ben and Little Ben lol.
By 5:30 it was time to make tracks and get changed for the theatre as we had tickets to Les Misérables. The show was terrific and this time I managed to stay awake for the whole performance, unlike last time when I dozed off in the middle of Wicked - blame a day of running around London and jet lag for that one lol. The pic below is of the chandelier in the Queens Theatre. On the whole, the show was terrific and well worth the effort.
