Venezia

Where April 25 is ANZAC day in Australia and New Zealand, it is also Liberation Day in Italy. This is the day where the liberation of Italy from the Germans is celebrated and is referred to as a bank holiday. Since the weather forecast was so nice, we decided to go to Venezia for the day. In order to save money we decided to buy tickets for the regionale train rather than the hi speed train. In terms of time saving, it would have only made a difference of 45 mins for double the price. It required a super early start and taking the 6:33am train to Verona and changing for Venezia. We decided to get off at Verona, go and have brekkie and then wander around for a little while.

Venezia was awaiting us via the 10:21 train which, unfortunately did not run on a public holiday. So, we jumped on the next one which was an all stations train. Two and a half hours later we arrive in Venezia, refreshed by our snoozing on the trip. The first order of the day was lunch which we had in a pretty cheap pizzeria. I partook of a Veneziano traditional drink, a spritz. No idea what's in it but it's really nice.

The boys decided to have beers in one litre steins with their meals. As expected there became a rather urgent need to go to the bathroom shortly after which became a little problematic considering the crowds. Nick suggested that we find a coffee bar, have a coffee each for €1,50 rather than simply pay €1,50 to use the public toilet. Dad and I lost sight of the group and ended up wandering around on our own for about an hour. This meant that I missed out on my espresso and made me sad lol.
